Two customised pooja room designs for 3BHK apartments in Hyderabad – minimal living room pooja unit at Anvita Ivana, Kollur, and traditional pooja mandir design at My Home Sayuk, Tellapur by 4inch studio.
Two distinct approaches to pooja room design in Hyderabad. A minimal living room pooja unit at Anvita Ivana, Kollur, and a traditional temple-inspired pooja unit at My Home Sayuk, Tellapur, both designed as part of customised 3BHK home interiors by 4inch studio.

A pooja space in an Indian home is more than just a designated corner for prayer. It is a personal space that reflects a family's beliefs, traditions and way of life. While some homeowners prefer an elaborate traditional mandir, others look for something more subtle that blends seamlessly with their modern home interiors.

At 4inch studio, we believe that good interior design begins with understanding the people who will live in the space. Their lifestyle, preferences and everyday routines should influence how their home is designed.

This philosophy guided us while designing two different pooja units for our recently completed 3BHK home interior projects in Hyderabad – one at Anvita Ivana, Kollur, and the other at My Home Sayuk, Tellapur.

Interestingly, both projects were designed for IT professionals with relatively simple and calm lifestyles. Although the clients had different preferences for their pooja spaces, the underlying design approach remained the same: create something that feels natural to the home and, more importantly, reflects the people living in it.

Let's explore these two pooja room designs and the thought process behind them.

1. Minimal Pooja Unit Design at Anvita Ivana, Kollur, Hyderabad

Project: Anvita Ivana, Kollur

Home Type: 3BHK Apartment

Location: Kollur, Hyderabad

Design Approach: Minimal, contemporary and understated

When a pooja unit needs to blend into the living room

The first challenge at Anvita Ivana was understanding how the pooja unit should look within the living room.

Unlike a dedicated pooja room, this unit was planned in the main living area, where it would naturally become part of the overall interior composition.

The client preferred a simple, understated appearance and did not want the pooja unit to look like a conventional temple. They wanted a design that respected their traditions without making the pooja space visually dominant in the living room.

This is where thoughtful design becomes important.

Instead of introducing elaborate temple structures or highly decorative elements, we approached the unit as a piece of functional furniture with subtle traditional detailing.

A subtle design with traditional considerations

The pooja unit features a warm beige finish that complements the surrounding interiors. Its clean, symmetrical shutters create a neat appearance, while the curved outline and repetitive floral-inspired cutwork introduce a gentle decorative element.

One of the most important design decisions was how we treated the shutters.

The client wanted the pooja unit to remain visually understated. At the same time, there were traditional considerations regarding ventilation and openings in pooja doors.

To balance both requirements, we incorporated airflow grooves into the shutter design itself.

Rather than adding a separate visible ventilation feature, we made it part of the design language. This allowed us to respect the client's preference for minimalism while accommodating the traditional consideration that the pooja unit should not be completely enclosed.

It is a small detail, but these are the kinds of decisions that make customised home interiors meaningful.

Functional storage without compromising the design

A pooja unit should not only look good; it should also support everyday use.

The lower section of this unit provides concealed storage, allowing pooja essentials to be organised without leaving everyday items visible.

The combination of closed storage, minimal handles and a floating-style appearance keeps the overall design clean and uncluttered.

For homeowners looking for modern pooja room designs for apartments, this is one approach worth considering: a pooja unit that serves its purpose while blending naturally with the living room interiors.

2. Traditional-Inspired Pooja Unit Design at My Home Sayuk, Tellapur, Hyderabad

Project: My Home Sayuk, Tellapur

Home Type: 3BHK Apartment

Location: Tellapur, Hyderabad

Design Approach: Traditional detailing with a contemporary finish

A different interpretation of a pooja space

Our second project at My Home Sayuk, Tellapur, takes a different design direction.

Unlike the understated pooja unit at Anvita Ivana, this design introduces more visible traditional elements while maintaining a neat and organised appearance.

The pooja unit is positioned close to the kitchen, making it a designated space within the home's everyday functional areas.

The design features a warm beige finish, symmetrical shutter detailing and a combination of traditional architectural motifs.

Temple-inspired detailing that gives the unit its character

One of the most noticeable aspects of this pooja unit is its decorative panel design.

The upper section features a combination of lotus motifs and temple-inspired arch patterns arranged in a symmetrical grid. These elements bring a traditional character to the unit without making the overall design feel excessively elaborate.

The lower shutters continue this visual language with decorative cow motifs, temple-shaped cutouts and framed panel detailing.

Together, these elements create a pooja unit that feels rooted in Indian traditions while fitting comfortably into a contemporary 3BHK apartment.

The design also incorporates concealed storage and drawers, helping keep everyday pooja essentials organised.

Making traditional design work in modern apartments

One of the challenges of designing a pooja room in an apartment is working within the available space.

Not every 3BHK home has a separate room that can be dedicated entirely to prayer. Sometimes, the pooja unit needs to be planned within the living area, near the kitchen or along an available wall.

In such situations, the design needs to consider the available dimensions, accessibility, storage and the overall interior theme.

At My Home Sayuk, the temple-inspired detailing gives the pooja space its own identity while the warm neutral colour palette helps maintain visual harmony with the rest of the home.

It demonstrates how traditional pooja mandir designs can be adapted for modern apartment living.

3. Two Different Pooja Unit Designs, One Design Philosophy

Although both homes are 3BHK apartments in Hyderabad, the two pooja units are quite different in appearance.

And that is intentional.

We don't believe every home should follow the same design template. Even when two clients have similar home configurations, their preferences, routines and expectations can be completely different.

At Anvita Ivana, the priority was to keep the pooja unit understated because of its prominent placement in the living room.

At My Home Sayuk, the design takes a more traditional direction, using architectural motifs and decorative shutter detailing to give the pooja space a distinct identity.

Both designs demonstrate an important principle: a well-designed home should reflect the people living in it, not just follow a particular interior design trend.

4. What Should You Consider Before Designing a Pooja Room in a 3BHK Apartment?

If you are planning your 3BHK home interiors in Hyderabad, here are a few things worth considering before finalising your pooja room design.

1. Location and space planning

Decide where the pooja unit will be positioned. Depending on the apartment layout, it could be in the living room, near the kitchen or in a dedicated niche.

The location should provide convenient access while maintaining the privacy and atmosphere you want for the space.

2. Traditional or modern pooja room design?

Think about how prominent you want your pooja unit to be.

  • For a minimal home, consider clean shutters, neutral colours and subtle decorative details.

  • For a traditional home, explore temple-inspired arches, lotus motifs and ornamental panels.

  • For a contemporary home, combine simple cabinetry with carefully selected traditional elements.

3. Storage and functionality

Plan storage for everyday pooja essentials, including lamps, incense, prayer books and other accessories.

Drawers and concealed cabinets can help maintain a clean appearance.

4. Lighting and ventilation

Lighting plays an important role in creating a peaceful pooja atmosphere. Plan suitable lighting while considering the practical requirements of the space.

If the pooja unit has shutters, think about ventilation and openings during the design stage itself.

5. Material, colour and finishes

Choose finishes that complement your overall home interiors.

Beige, ivory, warm wood tones and other neutral shades can work beautifully in contemporary Indian homes. The choice ultimately depends on the home's colour palette and the look you want to achieve.

6. Vastu and personal preferences

If Vastu considerations are important to your family, discuss them during the initial planning stage. The placement, orientation and design details should be considered alongside the apartment's actual layout and practical requirements.

5. Designing Homes That Reflect the People Living in Them – The 4inch studio Approach

One thing we have learnt through our projects is that designing a home is not simply about selecting colours, materials or furniture.

It starts with understanding the client.

During the design phase of both Anvita Ivana and My Home Sayuk, we spent time understanding the clients' personalities, preferences and lifestyles.

Both clients were IT professionals, and through our design interactions, we understood that they preferred simple, calm and uncluttered spaces.

That understanding influenced the way we approached their homes.

Rather than imposing a particular design style, we worked towards creating spaces that felt natural to them.

The two pooja units are a good example of this approach. One is deliberately understated, while the other embraces traditional detailing. Neither design is better than the other; each serves the preferences of the family it was created for.

At 4inch studio, we believe that your home should reflect you.

Whether it is a modular kitchen, wardrobe, living room, TV unit or a customised pooja mandir, every element deserves the same attention to detail.

1. What are the latest pooja room design ideas for 3BHK apartments?

Modern pooja room designs for 3BHK apartments combine traditional elements with contemporary aesthetics. Popular options include minimal wall-mounted pooja units, concealed mandir cabinets, temple-inspired shutters, lotus motifs, decorative cutwork and warm neutral finishes. The design should complement the overall home interiors while providing a dedicated and functional prayer space.

2. Can a pooja unit be designed within the living room of a 3BHK apartment?

Absolutely! A pooja unit can be thoughtfully integrated into the living room without making it look like a conventional temple. At our Anvita Ivana project in Kollur, Hyderabad, we designed a minimal beige pooja unit with subtle decorative patterns and integrated airflow grooves. This allowed the unit to blend seamlessly with the living room interiors while accommodating the client's traditional preferences.

3. What should be considered when designing a pooja room in an apartment?

Important considerations include available space, placement, storage, lighting, ventilation, materials and Vastu preferences. Since apartments often have limited space, customised pooja unit designs can help maximise functionality without compromising aesthetics. It is also important to understand the family's daily rituals and preferences before finalising the design.

4. Did you face any challenges while executing the interior projects?

Yes! One of the unique aspects of our My Home Sayuk project was that the client was living abroad while the entire 3BHK home interior project was being designed and executed in Hyderabad. From understanding their requirements and developing the designs to coordinating execution and delivering the completed home, our team managed the entire process with care and responsibility. Despite the distance, we successfully designed, executed and delivered the complete home without any hassle for the client.

5. How can I get a customised pooja room design as part of my 3BHK home interiors in Hyderabad?

You can start by discussing your space requirements, design preferences, lifestyle and traditional considerations with an interior design team. At 4inch studio, we create customised pooja units as part of complete 3BHK home interiors, ensuring that every element complements the home's overall design. Whether you prefer a minimal contemporary pooja unit or a traditional temple-inspired mandir, we work towards creating a design that reflects your preferences.
